Sarah Jess
My name is Sarah Jess. I am endlessly passionate about beautiful, elegant things and intelligent, unusual humans.
I have been on a life-long search for my dream career; working my way through a Bachelor's Degree in Fashion, and later an Associate's Degree in Visual Communications. A wide variety of different jobs eventually led me to photo styling in Columbus, Ohio, followed by a management position at an upscale boutique. Unfulfilled, and determined to rid myself of the shopping addiction that had plagued me since my teens, I resigned from my job, boxed up my belongings, and moved to my hometown of Piqua, Ohio. I opened an Etsy shop online, found a part-time job, and learned to live frugally and without credit cards. Navarre was an ancient kingdom between France and Spain, which I have long been fascinated with. I had created the concept for Navare Jewelry for a graphic design project in college, and along with these ideas, began building my inventory by re-purposing pieces from my personal jewelry collection. I love using broken and forgotten vintage pieces and found objects, re-purposing them into beautiful, one-of-a-kind jewelry with a sense of history and culture. I want my creations to appear as if a bored girl in a castle had made them, or as if they have just been discovered inside of a box of long-lost treasure. It is part of Navare Jewelry's mission to respect the environment by re-purposing and recycling glass rosary beads, antique buttons, jeweled brooches, and old door hardware, among other beautiful discarded pieces. It was also important for me to defeat my greed, as a fashion devotee, by giving twelve percent of my income to someone less fortunate. I continue to work towards building my jewelry business, and am currently writing a book about the journey of sacrificing my shopping addiction for my dream - my jewelry business!
